- +Title:
- Narrative: Climate Proof and Eco-smart DRR
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: Though Karamoja region in Uganda has become more peaceful and stable, drought, floods, animal and human diseases continue to threaten the livelihoods in Nakapiripirit and Napak districts. With support of CORDAID, ECO Uganda is implementing smart solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction, including climate adaption and improved ecosystem management.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: Cordaid with its partner ECO Uganda aims to contribute to increased resilience to climate-induced shocks of the target communities. Increased resilience will reduce the impact of hazards on their livelihoods. The communities will plan for and implement mitigation and preventive measures towards drought and floods. Integrated disaster risk reduction interventions include strengthening farming practices, credit and saving, alternative livelihoods and animal health. These efforts will be coupled with an early warning system and enforcement of local regulation for sustainable use of environment
- +Description: [type="3" ]

- Narrative: Climate-smart Disaster Risk Management Isiolo County
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: Over the years MID-P has been using participatory approach which integrates Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Ecosystem Management and Restoration (EMR) in addressing the salient disaster risk issues that affect the lives and livelihood of communities living along the Ewaso Nyiro North River Basin. The Climate Smart Project (CSP) was born out of a Participatory Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) process which was undertaken by National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) and Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) in 2016. The project contributes towards the Overall Objective which is ‘improved resilience of pastoralist communities in Isiolo County’’ through integrated risk management approach. The activities were implemented in such a way that the outcomes will individually and collectively contribute to the overall objectives. Throughout the implementation period, MID-P worked closely with NDMA and other stakeholders who are also working in building the community resilience in Isiolo County. The activities were implemented to ensure connections as well as provide synergy in PFR 2 program activities on policy dialogue

- Narrative: Climate Smart Disaster Risk Management in Isiolo County PhII
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: The main economic activities practised in the communities where the project will be implemented are pastoralism, farming, small scale businesses, charcoal burning, casual labour and small scale harvesting of gum and resins. Pastoralism is the primary livelihood with over 80% of residents practising it. Drought is the single most impactful hazard on pastoralism. Farming and other activities are supplementary or fallback ventures when the mainstay activity underperforms. In 2017 MID-P worked with Gubadida and Ministry of Agriculture on a Demonstration Plot for the petty farmers and our experience is that the livestock welfare was the priority- most people who were scheduled to work on the plot did not show up because of livestock related engagements. Besides food, any income raised from farming is directed to support pastoralism with many community members dropping from farming when pastoralism is favourable. This means that the high agricultural potential in Kinna and Rapsu is largely underutilised. Our experience to have à conversation on the utilisation of water resources has not been fruitful. We are yet to assess the impact of the rehabiltation of the Rapsu Irrigation Scheme Main Canal Intake. The activity increased both the flow and volume of water available for irrigation as well as the quality of water. The communities have their own strategies to cope with these hazards. The traditional coping mechanisms employed during drought are no longer as effective as it were in the past. The customary system of Natural Resource Management (NRM) of Deedha has been weakened so there is no drought fallback zones.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: Overall project objective: to contribute to improved resilience of pastoralist communities in Isiolo County I. To strengthen community adaptative mechanisms through innovative interventions II. To build the capacities of community in managing climate related risks III. To Improve learning and knowledge management
- +Description: [type="3" ]
- Narrative: The targeted population of 18,487 in Kinna, Rapsu and Korbesa will benefit from an increased knowledge on IRM and a strengthened coordination of drought preparedness and contingency plans; an improved management of rangeland and water resources; increased water availability through solar power pumping boreholes and pans rehabilitation and increased food production.

- Narrative: Cervical cancer program in Bururi Province
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: Cervical cancer is one of the most serious threats to women's lives. ACCORDING to WHO estimates, more than one million women worldwide currently suffer from this cancer. In most of these women, the diagnosis has not been made and most of them do not have access to treatment that would cure them or prolong their lives. The disease is one of the deadliest forms of cancer for women, with more than 270,000 deaths per year, 85% of which occur in developing countries, although it is easily preventable. Cervical cancer is a public health problem in the world in general and in Burundi in particular. In 2008, new cases worldwide were estimated at 529,000 with 274,000 deaths, more than 85% of which were in low-income countries, mainly among young women. In Burundi, cervical cancer is the first gynecological cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women. In 1994, this cancer accounted for 47.7% of all cancers in women. So it is on the rise in our country. Precancerous lesions accounted for 10% of women in routine gynaecological consultations in 2000 compared to 16% in 2008. The lack of the screening program and the lack of adequate management services for cancer cases in general mean that more than 70% of women consult at an inoperable stage and as a result, the morbi-mortality associated with cervical cancer becomes more important. However, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine offers a great opportunity to significantly reduce the global burden of cervical cancer and has just been introduced into the range of vaccines of the Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI) in Burundi. The Rumonge and Ngozi ricthealth s benefits have been selected to implement the pilot project to introduce this new vaccine in all countries. The national scale-up of HPV vaccination will be carried out from 2019 after the pilot phase is evaluated. Awareness-raising actions for prevention, screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of cervical cancer, still in the pilot phase, Cordaid is supporting the Ministry of Public Health and AIDS Control via the NSNP to develop a communication strategy on the prevention, screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix through the pilot start-up project in Rumongeprovince. In the process of developing the pilot project for RumongeProvince, the Director of the NSNP suggested that Cordaid start this project at the same time, if financial opportunities permit, in two provinces of Rumonge and Bururi so that Burundi would be adequately covered for cervical cancer screening and treatment. It is in this context that Cordaid wants to expand this pilot project in bururi province.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: General objective is the reduction of morbi-mortality associated with cervical cancer. Specific objectives: * Ensuring that key community stakeholders are educated about cervical cancer prevention and screening, * Strengthen the technical capacity (HR and equipment) of services involved in the detection and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix and finally, * Strengthen collaborative links between stakeholders in the detection and treatment of precancerous cervix lesions
- +Description: [type="3" ]
- Narrative: In Bururi province, 10 health facilities (FOSA) from 3 hospitals (Bururi, Rutovu and Matana) and 7 health centres will be involved in the project to prevent, screen and treat precancerous lesions of the cervix. These FOSA will be equipped with equipment and consumables essential for visual inspection screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix. * The target group for this project is mainly women of childbearing age (22.7% of the population: 87,987 women), women aged 30 to 50 in the matana and Bururi health districts; * To convey awareness messages to the general population and especially women, information/communication will be carried out against administrative, community and religious leaders, women's associations, community health workers and health professionals; * Training will be carried out for health care providers involved and community health workers on cryotherapy screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix for health care providers, and on the communication strategy for the prevention, screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix for CSA; * The final beneficiaries are all the inhabitants of Bururi province in general.

- Narrative: Capacity Building for IRM Phase II
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: The Philippines is the ninth most vulnerable country to the adverse effects of climate-related events based on its level of exposure to extreme climate-related events; the sensitivity of populations in terms of health, education, agriculture, dependence, and available infrastructure; and the capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Under climate change scenarios, it is projected that the Philippines will be affected by an increase in extreme climate-related events, such as storms, flooding, and drought. The main people vulnerable to these hazards are the Indigenous People (IP), urban poor and coastal, small-island and rural communities in the Philippines. The Indigenous People are among the poorest and most disadvantaged social group in the country with illiteracy, unemployment and incidences of poverty much higher among them than the rest of the population. Also, their capacity to bounce back and recover from the impact of hazards is significantly more limited than non-IP groups, partly because they live in remote areas without access to basic services which are characterized by a high incidence of morbidity, mortality and malnutrition. Coastal, small-island and rural communities in the Philippines are also vulnerable because under-lying poverty, environmental degradation and climate-induced hazards have a significant impact on the ability of especially poor farmers and fisher folk to bounce back in the event of disaster. Urban migration is increasing and with it brings massive social, economic and environmental problems to cities throughout the Philippines as informal settlers, the majority of whom have established themselves in the most marginalized areas which are predominately highly exposed to hazards. Current hazards are likely to increase under changing climatic conditions; ecosystem degradation is exacerbating existing risks and creating new ones; and uncontrolled urbanization drives risks further. The Government of the Philippines has developed national policies, programs and allocated funding in response to COP, Sendai Framework on Disaster Reduction and the SDGs, yet locally response remains limited and fragmented.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: Long-term objective: - Increased resilience of community groups – farmers, fisherfolk, women’s groups and urban poor - to cope with climate, environmental and social risks Short-term objectives: - Urban Resilience: Community driven urban resilience networks expanded across the drainage and coastal landscape in Mandaue City and replicated in Bulacan province - IRM, Conflict Mitigation in Resource Management and Livelihoods: Enhance local adaptive capacities for ecosystem-based and diversified livelihoods amongst others through savings groups and access to local markets. The main focus is on water/soil/coastal ecosystem-based adaptive and alternative livelihoods capacities in coastal villages and islands

- Narrative: The creation of sector expertise working groups recognises the richness of the Caritas confederation and the importance of working together and drawing on the relative strengths of the member organisations to serve the people affected by disasters. To operate as a confederation, MOs should be aware of where expertise lies across member organisations worldwide, and should be able to draw on it and build expertise globally as a confederation. The members of the sectoral Working Groups will develop their skills and shared understanding of that sector and will be deployed to support Caritas MOs in their emergency programmes.

- Narrative: Capacity Building of Local Organisations to Respond Effectively in Emergencies (SCORE)
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: SCORE’s strategy is informed by Trócaire/Cordaid’s extensive experience, as partnership agencies, of CS activities with local partners globally. This includes ongoing CS work in each of the target countries using organisational CS frameworks/tools. It also includes Trócaire’s experience in the START-funded Shifting the Power programme – a 3-year CS initiative for which Trócaire was lead agency (in collaboration with CAFOD) for the Ethiopia component. Lessons learnt to date have informed project design. To ensure effectiveness, the CS approach will a) be locally-led, built on an assessment of CSO needs/preferences; b) be flexible to allow tailored support for each CSO; c) include multiple CS techniques, with a focus on experiential learning grounded in local contextual realities; and d) prioritise gender, age and diversity, incl. appropriate gender/diversity balance of participants. SCORE is also informed by the global push since the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit and Grand Bargain (endorsed by DG ECHO) for increased investment in CS of local actors to shift the power towards locally-led response. Trócaire and Cordaid are Charter4Change signatories and play a prominent role in researching and promoting localisation at the EU level (e.g. Trócaire/Groupe URD research, More than the Money: Localisation in practice, 2017). SCORE is an 18-month project aiming to enhance resilience in crisis-affected communities and promote a leading role for local actors in humanitarian action by strengthening the capacity of local civil society organisations (CSOs), incl. prospective EU Aid Volunteer hosting organisations, to respond effectively and efficiently to crises. Led by Trócaire, it is a consortium response consisting of Trócaire and Catholic Organization for Relief, Development and Aid (Cordaid), both headquartered in the EU, and 5 Trócaire/Cordaid country offices as affiliated entities, working alongside 12 local CSOs in 4 crisis-affected or at-risk countries: Ethiopia (ACPA; APDA; RACIDA; Acord; Agri Service), the Democratic Republic of Congo (Maams; Action d’Espoir; Padebu), Rwanda (ARCT; Duhamic Adri) and Sierra Leone (AAD-SL; KADDRO). Building on extensive experience within the consortium of working in partnership with CSOs, SCORE will prioritise effectiveness by ensuring that CS activities a) are locally-led, informed by CSO needs and preferences; b) are flexible to allow tailored support for each CSO, and c) include multiple CS techniques, with a focus on experiential learning grounded in local contextual realities.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: SCORE’s overall objective is to support the resilience of vulnerable/disaster-affected communities by strengthening the capacity of 12 local CSOs to prepare for and respond to humanitarian crises. The 3 specific objectives (SOs) are: 1. To strengthen E-Prep and CP in local CSOs; 2. To strengthen the capacity and readiness of local CSOs to deliver timely, high quality and needs-based humanitarian assistance; and 3. To promote organisational learning – both within the consortium and with other relevant stakeholders in-country and at European level – by documenting and disseminating lessons learnt and examples of good practice from the project.
- +Description: [type="3" ]
- Narrative: Direct beneficiaries are staff from the 12 local partner organisations in the 4 countries, indirect beneficiaries are all beneficiaries of their projects that will consequently benefit from the increased capacities in effective and efficient response to emergencies of the 12 partner organisations.

- Narrative: CHF WASH Mbomou et Basse Kotto
- +Description: [type="1" ]

- Narrative: Calamianes Watershed Characterization Study for Resilience Building
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: The Calamianes Group of Islands is considered as one of the most biodiverse in the Province of Palawan and the Philippines. It comprises the municipality of Coron, Busuanga, Culion and Linapacan covering more than 160 islands with a total land area of 177,709 hectares and population of 109,656 (NSO, 2015). With the heavy dependence on natural resources for livelihood, increased tourism activities, population growth, illegal activities, and the impact of natural hazards and climate change, ecosystem abilities to provide essential services including water is threatening the economic development and survivability of its people. In the islands, poverty incidence remains high at 60.57% and the majority of the inhabitants are still deprived from access to safe drinking water as resources are unprotected, undeveloped, diminishing, getting salty and polluted. Community and the Local Government (LGU) response to protect and conserve the remaining forest cover, especially in watershed areas, are very limited resulting to its inability to provide sufficient water during dry season. With a -25% decrease in rainfall, decreased number of days of wet days, and warmer dry season climate projections for the Calamian in the next 30-50 years, the pressure for both communities and local governments to adapt to the changing climate necessitates concrete adaptation actions toward protection and conservation of existing watershed and other water resources areas. As a critical resource, lack of water impacts health, hygiene, food security, livelihood options, the ecosystem and reduces capacity to cope with climate change or hazards. Ineffective governance, lack of community awareness and support, weak protection and conservation and unsustainable development of forest and watershed resources due to gaps in scientific data result to environmental degradation, depletion and exploitation of natural resources, water scarcity and high vulnerability to climate and disaster hazards and extreme poverty.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: The project goal is to increase capacity for evidence-based integrated forest and watershed management, protection, and conservation for resiliency through watershed characterization and vulnerability assessment in four (4) major Calamian watershed areas. There are 3 sub-objectives, namely: 1) Watershed characterization and vulnerability assessment in four (4) major Calamian watershed areas provides basis for analysis and planning for resilience, sustainable development, conservation and improved environmental services. 2) Community, CSO and LGU partnerships for resilience are enhanced through capacity building and improved forest governance. 3) Multi-stakeholder advocacy strategy on forest and watershed protection, management and conservation supports integration of resilience priorities in LGUs plans, policies, budgets and new project proposals.
- +Description: [type="3" ]
- Narrative: Direct: At least 27, 988 inhabitants in four (4) major watershed to be covered in the assessment. The proposed intervention seeks to engage at least 100 community members in 4 target watersheds, which will include Barangay officials, representatives of fisher folk, farmers, women’s groups, and community organizations. This will include at least 50 women including representatives from Indigenous Groups, women’s groups and livelihoods groups. Indirect: 109,656 population of the Calamianes, as the capacities built in assessing the 4 watersheds targeted in this project will be used for replication to other watersheds in the 4 target municipalities.

- +Title:
- Narrative: Cash for people displaced by Kunduz fighting
- +Description: [type="1" ]
- Narrative: Following a relatively quiet period, fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) flared up across the north-east of Afghanistan mainly in Badakhshan, Kunduz and Takhar provinces, resulting in some 9,150 families (approximately 64,050 people) being displaced by ongoing fighting since 16 August in Kunduz province and further displacement is expected. Some 6,670 HH are seeking refuge in Kunduz city, 2,500 HH fled to remote villages in Khanabad District, 1,500 HH in Imam Sahib and 580 HH in Aqtash district (Flash update 2 UNOCHA, 27 August, 2020). Many of the displaced families are staying with relatives or friends, or in rental accomodation while others are living in makeshift substandard shelters or in open spaces. The most urgent needs are shelter, food, Health care and safe drinking water. Due to lack of shelter, food and NFIs these vulnerable groups are experiencing the heat but soon the cold weather will arrive, and are also more prone to GBV and sexual violence. Furthermore, the lack of safe water and sanitation facilities are major public health and protection risks. The temporary shelters are overcrowded, making it impossible for people to follow the COVID-19 advise, further increasing risks on infections. Displacement is affecting women, girls, elderly, ill and disabled disproportionately, increasing their protection risks. Humanitarian partners are supporting local authorities to respond to people in need and have deployed inter-agency assessment teams to affected areas. During the regional cluster meeting on 26 August, both WFP and ECHO (through ERM) agreed to support 1,250 families with cash and food. However, with an estimated 50% (Kunduz Head of DoRR) of the affected people is vulnerable and in need of assistance, the assistance provided is not sufficient. As of yet the current response and attention for this crisis is insufficient. The regional UNOCHA office requested the Kabul UNOCHA office for uregent assistance of additional 2000 HH. There are very clear gaps identified in the response and needs are increasing rapidly especially as fighting continues. The aim of the assistance is therefore to address recently displaced people's most urgent, basic needs, saving lives, preventing the already precarious situation from worsening and families to apply negative coping strategies as many have already depleted their reserves.
- +Description: [type="2" ]
- Narrative: To address the pressing needs of the displaced population with one month cash for their expenditure and providing COVID-19 awareness
- +Description: [type="3" ]
- Narrative: Target vulnerable groups from the internally displaced people due to recent conflict in three districts of Kunduz (Kunduz City, Imam Sahib and Khan Abad). Basically those displaced or affected by the fighting and are sheltered in makeshift shelters, in the open and host households of the displaced persons. These vulnerable groups include; women, children, the elderly and chronicaly ill, persons with special needs, and people who's properties have been destroyed by the fighting and are now living in open spaces. for identification of most vulnerable HH, the displacement status with poor food consuption score and high coping startegies will be considered. for the inditification of beneficiraies the HEAT (ICCT endorsed tool) uploaded to the Kobo-Toolbox will be used which also give the realtime information on vulnerability.
